Fingerpointing Friday

Looking for that Elektra review? Sorry, didn't get to see it. We got to the theatre 15 minutes before we were told the movie was to begin, but we were in fact 15 minutes late. The fella at the theatre said people were lining up for the screening as early as 2pm, so it was a packed house. From everything I've heard from friends who did make it into the screening, it seems we lucked out. They said it was pretty lame and they didn't get to see the Fantastic Four trailer either. We ended up hanging out and going to Planet Thailand in Williamsburg. Good times.

I like blogs that have theme days, so I've come up with spins of my own. First is Fingerpointing Fridays. I'll just post something from a band or bands that makes you point your finger, sing along and get you moving.

Today's tracks are a few of my all-time favorite songs from an all-time favorite band. C.R., or the Compassionate Revolution, were one of those rare bands that came along with so much to say, had so much energy and meant so much to the people that got to experience them that you always wonder what more could have come if they hadn't broken up so quickly.

Birthday Blog

Yes, today is my birthday. Some friends took me out to lunch, I got two shirts I bought in the mail (a Champion t-shirt and a Small Brown Bike hoodie) and I'm going to see a special screening of Elektra tonight. Hmm. Well, two out of three ain't bad.
I, being a fan of comics, look upon most comic movies with some hesitation, but this already rubs me the wrong way. Suffice to say I'm going into it with very low expectations. The good thing is that the Fantastic Four trailer will run before it. Hopefully that won't be utter shite. I'll return tomorrow with a review of Elektra and the first iteration of my planned themed Friday blogs.

I've got two songs for today

Rainer Maria - "Thought I Was" [from A Better Version of Me]
I chose this song because I went into this record with very low inentions, having seen and disliked Rainer Maria some years before, but I really dig this song.

Kill The Man Who Questions - "You Say It's Your Birthday" [from Sugar Industry]
Ah, raging, political punk. I remember having dinner after a show with KTMWQ and some other people at a TGI Fridays way back when. They're good people.

A conspiracy gripped the intrepid...

That doesn't even really make much sense, does it? Oh well. I was looking at a comic called Conspiracy that was sitting next to me. It has an interesting cover of a guy about to get smacked with a giant magnifying glass. At least it looks that way from far away.

Onto the music. Here's the Lovage song that I was going to post yesterday. Lovage is the creation of Dan The Automator, Mike Patton (rock god) and Jennifer Charles (Elysian Fields). Patton and Charles are often going back and forth, weaving their vocals together around very Portishead-like, slow beats and it works perfectly. This isn't my favorite track off the disc, but it's a good appetizer.

Long Island Hardc-huh?

I'm a Long Island kid. I have no shame in admitting it. I grew up there and really developed my musical tastes through the "Long Island Hardcore" scene in the late '90s. I wanted to stop by the Long Island Zoo message board to say I had an mp3 blog and see if anyone minded me posting mp3s from LI bands. Somethin's happened and the board's been closed by the guys what ran it. Could be silly internet bullshit, but who knows. Oh well. Here are two songs from LI bands of my day.

Silent Majority - "Salvation" [a live Cranberries cover]

Milhouse - "Patron Saint of Imbeciles I & II" [from their split 7" with CR]

Songs itunes played while I put this post together:
The Black Heart Procession "Blue Water-Blackheart
The Stereo "I Confess To All This Mess"
American Nightmare "Farewell"
Tool "Flood"
Non Prophets "Tolerance Level"

Behold the first post.

Welcome to my blog. I spend way too much time looking at other people's blogs in order to check out new music and always wanting to contribute, so here it is. I'll mostly be posting indie/punk/hardcore mp3s, but there'll be plenty of other types of music here. Probably some crap about comics and other junk I'm into. Elequoent, no?

I was going to post a Lovage song as my first post, but that's not quite in the vein of the blog, is it? Instead, I've chosen a song by an old buddy of mine, Brandon's band, Nightmare of You. Sad, sexy, melodic indie if you need to classify it. They're working on their full-length right now and according to Brandon, they're one of Alternative Press' 100 bands to watch in 2005.

Nightmare of You - "No Uniform is Gonna Keep You Warm"
